The railway ran between Waterhouses and Hulme End via the Manifold and Hamps valleys from 1904 to 1934. It was modelled on narrow gauge railways the engineer had built in India. Colonial style railway buildings survive along the route. Now 14 km of gentle footpath and cycle way, it is ideal for exploring the picturesque wooded valley and limestone gorges.
