Edale, how green is this valley?
Edale must be the most-accessible remote valley in the Peak District. The green fields are surrounded by dramatic hills that are topped by open moors. The Pennine Way starts here and the Sheffield to Manchester train stops here. We like the meadow flowers in the spring and the moorland birds in the summer.

Early June is the time to see huge swathes of cotton grass on the moorlands. The moors between Kinder, Brown Knoll and Colborne are especially good. They are covered in a light dusting of white feathery flowers that shimmer in the sun. You can walk onto the moorland here from Dalehead or Jacob's Ladder in Edale or along Rushup Edge. I couldn't get a shot of them all but have this one of the cotton heads around a pool.
