Ashbourne's food speciality is gingerbread. French prisoners of war brought the recipe to the town during the Napoleonic Wars. Ashbourne is also famous for its magnificent Georgian architecture and cobbled streets. Oh, and Samuel Johnson who wrote the first English dictionary enjoyed staying and drinking here.

Ashbourne is well known for Arts. Ashbourne has many Antique shops, and Gallerys, there is also a wide range of high quality shops for everyones shopping requirements. The town has numerous pubs, hotels, cafes and resturants.
