I also enjoy going to Arbor Low. It is one of the most impressive henges in the UK and very atmospheric. The views across the countryside are good too. There is a fallen stone circle inside a high stone bank and deep inner ditch. Nomadic families built the henge 5,000 - 4,000 years ago. They gathered for ceremonies and cattle exchange, their campfires surrounding the henge.

Be a much better place if the farmer stopped wrecking the surrounding land, was like a bog the last time i was there and the cursus feature is being eroded.

mobile phones

are stones

each left to go flat

on a county-sized table

cleared of clutter.

Twenty ton blocks

of text messages stored

in language untold

across millennia.

The stones are phones;

we become gods

once humbled enough to listen.

I was there on saturday 17th May. It looks in much better condition now than a couple of years ago. There's good new information signs with drawings of what is was like and a B&W photo of a Victorian excavation .
